Place-making is essential to our work, and one of our earliest projects was designed to surprise and animate a place battling inconsistent public perception: our entire city. Just as Mainx24 proved that Chattanooga could be a round-the-clock city, 35˚85˚ showed that even on a Monday night, Chattanoogans could come out en masse to celebrate our city, the Southside, and the many creative endeavors that make life here so dynamic.

In a nutshell, 35˚85˚ was a music and arts showcase, hosted on a school night in August 2008 and named after Chattanooga’s longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates. It was promoted largely by guerilla means. Posters, sidewalk graffiti, and road stickers asked, how well do we know this place we call home?

Free and open to the public, 35˚85˚ attracted an unprecedented crowd size at the hosting venue, Loose Cannon. In total, over 1200 locals came to the event, well beyond everyone’s expectations.
