“Passages” Closing Reception - Saturday - 7 to 9 PM

The closing reception for “Passages” coincides with the AEC’s 2nd Biennial Chattanooga Festival of Writers, March 28 & 29. “Passages” showcases the work of eleven Southside and downtown artists who used excerpts from southern literature as inspiration for their work.  Pairing visual art paired with the written word highlights the exhibition’s exploration of local community, collaboration and the arts.

CreateHere will hold the closing reception for the exhibition on Saturday, March 29 from 7 to 9PM at our studios at 55 East Main Street. This event is FREE and open to the public.

AEC’s Festival of Writers

Yesterday’s edition of the Chattanooga Times Free Press carried a great editorial about the Arts & Education Council’s 2nd biennial Chattanooga Festival of Writers taking place this Friday and Saturday.  The Festival of Writers, which celebrates the art of writing, is the little sister of the AEC’s highly acclaimed Conference of Southern Literature, and this year little sister is stretching her limbs.  In addition to the festival’s scheduled lectures, readings and workshops, guest authors are leading student enrichment programs and workshops for Chattanooga’s creative writing teachers. 

“The AEC’s Festival of Writers has gained a place of prominence on the expanding list of the community’s productive and varied cultural events, and it understandably has won the affection and patronage of area residents.”  To read the full article, check out the AEC’s blog.

Nocturne - March 27th - Citizen Kane

Come down to CreateHere’s studio this Thursday night where we’ll show the American classic, “Citizen Kane,” as the latest event in the Nocturne Film Series.

Nocturne will take place in the CreateHere studio space at 55 East Main Street from 7 to 9:30PM.  The evening will open with a short introduction by UTC film professor, Karen Henderson. There will be vendors with popcorn and corndogs on site. Chairs will be provided, but feel free to bring your own seating. “Citizen Kane,” written and directed by Orson Welles, is considered to be one of the most innovative and influential works in the history of film.  The plot traces the life of newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane, whose career in the publishing world is born of idealistic social service but gradually evolves into a ruthless pursuit of power. “Citizen Kane” unfolds in a series of vignettes from the perspective of a newspaper reporter seeking to solve the mystery of Kane’s dying word, “Rosebud”.

SpringBoard classes set in motion…

As SpringBoard classes approach the third week, local entrepreneurs work
through their business plans at the CreateHere studio. SpringBoard’s eight week course helps participants learn the business planning process while building business skills and reducing fears of self-employment. Topics covered in the course include developing a mission statement, estimating start-up and overhead costs, profit goal setting, cash flow, marketing, licensing, and record
keeping. Creative business ideas have been flowing in and out of the
classroom, and students are already forming networks and friendships. We
wish these entrepreneurs the best of luck in the weeks ahead as they put their time and energy into making their ideas a reality. If you have a great idea for a business and need help developing a plan, SpringBoard might be the program for you.
